About famenia

famenia is an independent family portal for families of means. We write down what money can and cannot buy for a childhood, with the numbers.

A portal for families who expect more

famenia grew out of a simple observation: the families with the most choices get the least honest information. School guides omit the fees, hotel reviews are written for couples, parenting advice assumes a budget. We wanted one place that speaks to affluent families as they are, with the boarding fee in francs, the nanny’s salary in pounds and the safari age limit in years.

How we research

School fees, curricula and entry ages come from the schools’ own published information for the 2025/26 year and are rounded; they change every year, so please check the school’s current fee schedule before you plan. Salary ranges for household staff come from agencies, job boards and families in the countries concerned. Health content is general information from paediatric guidelines, not medical advice. Money content is education, not investment advice.

No paid placements

Schools, agencies, hotels and brands cannot buy their way into famenia. Where we name a school, a resort or a product, it is because we think it belongs here. If we ever work with a partner, the entry will say so clearly.

The tools

School Finder, Education Cost Calculator, Allowance Planner, Gift Finder, Family Trip Matcher, Household Staff Budget, Junior Fund Simulator, Family Health Planner, Birthday Party Planner, Admissions Timeline, the Crest Maker, the quiz and the 50 run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us and nothing is tracked. You share results yourself, as a link or as an image.

Images and videos

The pictures on famenia illustrate our topics and were created for this portal. They do not show the specific schools, families, homes or people described. School images are impressions of the setting and architecture, not photographs of the campus.

Who we are

famenia is published by NexTao GmbH in Düsseldorf, a digital agency with a growing family of independent magazines. The editorial team writes in English for an international audience; a German edition on famenia.de is planned.
