École des Roches
France's leading boarding school, with the French Baccalauréat, an international section, riding and a house system inspired by the English model.
The character
Les Roches is the boarding school of the French business families and of international pupils who want a French education: the Bac is taught seriously, an IB track runs alongside, the houses are homes with house parents and the park has stables, sports fields and woods. It is a genuinely bilingual school in the French countryside.
Good for
Francophone families, learning French, riders
Less suited to
Families who want an English-only school
Getting in
Dossier, interview and a trial period; entry from sixth (age 11) to the terminale.
What it costs in total
At about € 50,000 a year for boarding, the 5 years from 13 to 18 add up to roughly €280,000 in today’s money including typical extras, before fee increases, tutoring and flights. The Education Cost Calculator adds inflation, extras and a second child.
Fees are rounded 2025/26 figures from the school’s own schedule and change every year. The school’s current fee sheet prevails. The picture is an impression of the setting, not a photograph of the campus.
