Every family that travels knows the moment: the boarding queue starts to move, the toddler is asleep on one shoulder, the bag hangs off the other, and the pushchair still has to be folded. Stokke has built its new YOYO⁵ around exactly that moment. The ultra-compact pushchair folds and unfolds with one hand and can be steered with one hand too. Stokke also points out that BABYZEN YOYO is now fully part of the Stokke family.
The fold, and why it matters
The headline change is the instant one-hand fold. It works with the seat and also with the YOYO⁵ Newborn Pack attached, so parents of very young babies keep the compact fold from the first day; only the separate Bassinet has to come off first. A second, smaller idea may prove just as useful: the handlebar folds on its own in seconds, which shortens the pushchair without collapsing it. Stokke has tight spaces and dining out in mind, and anyone who has parked a pushchair beside a restaurant table will see the point.

Built for the overhead locker
Folded, the YOYO⁵ measures 52 by 45 by 22 centimetres. Stokke says that is equal to or smaller than most airline cabin luggage allowances and suggests carrying it in the protective bag supplied with it or in the YOYO Backpack, which is sold as an accessory. The sensible caveat is Stokke’s own: allowances vary by airline, so check before you fly. Once folded, it can be carried over the shoulder on a padded strap, which slips back into the basket when the pushchair is opened, or by hand on the folded handlebar.

Weight, wheels and the seat
The pushchair weighs 7 kilograms as a stroller and with the Newborn Pack, and 9.5 kilograms with the Bassinet. All four wheels are suspended, and Stokke says the front wheels do not need to be locked off the pavement thanks to the design of the wheel fork and suspension. The basket takes up to 10 kilograms. The Seat Pack, for children from six months, brings a padded seat with head support, an extendable canopy with a peek-a-boo window and a ventilation window, UPF 50+ fabric, water-repellent materials and covers that go in the washing machine.

Colours and price
The YOYO⁵ comes in Black, Taupe, Forest, Peach and Berry. In the British Stokke shop the YOYO⁵ stroller is listed at 429 pounds. The frame is completed with the textiles that suit the age of the child, Seat Pack, Newborn Pack or Bassinet, so one frame can follow a child from birth into the toddler years. Stokke tests the textiles for colourfastness, washing, abrasion, light exposure, water repellency and UV protection.

Who it is for
The YOYO⁵ is not an all-terrain pram and does not pretend to be one. It is the second pushchair many families end up buying: the one that lives in the car boot, goes to the grandparents and boards the plane to the villa. For that job a fold that needs one hand and a size that fits the locker are worth more than a large basket. Planning the holiday itself?
